Welcome! Wikis are websites that everyone can build together. It's easy!

About this wiki

This wiki is a collection of educational, planning and assessment tools that has been compiled for sharing among practitioners, researchers, administrators and government officials.

Contributions to this toolbox wiki will come from several sources, including an initial scan done by the Canadian Association for School Health in June 2007 for the Society of Obstetricians and Gaynecologists of Canada. Other sources will include the national non-governmental organizations concerned with sexual health, STIs and HIV-AIDS at the national level, researchers and local agencies such as public health authoritity staff and school boards. As well, this wiki will be coordinated with the planning of a pre-conference symposium on sexual health and schools being held in Ottawa April19-21, 2008 and with a series of webinars being held in 2007-08.

We are hopeful that with time and contribitions from many this wiki-toolbox can be a real support to effective, evidence-informed school-based and school-linked sexual health education policies, programs and practices in Canada. This wki includes the following which corresponds to a comprehensive school-based and school-linked approach to sexual health education and promotion:

  • Prevalence, Nature of Sexual Health problems and assets
  • Examples of Comprehensive and Coordinated SH programs
  • Policies, including vision, policy and planning related documents (examples on topics such as sexual harassment, orientation, counselling and referral policies, partnerships with agencies etc)
  • Sexual health instruction/education (curricula, programs, lesson plans, webquests, teacher training materials, web sites for youth, parents and teachers)
  • Social support programs (youth engagement programs, parent involvement programs, local media strategies, etc)
  • Sexual health services (school clinics, youth friendly clinics, peer programs, parent support programs, testing programs, HPV and other vaccinations programs etc.
  • Physical environment and resources (safe places programs, condom access, universal precautions
